Open Heart

OpenHeartMP

One of the most difficult things to master is interpersonal relationships. We meet people from all walks of life that have experiences, challenges, wounds and wisdom that offers a different perspective from our own understanding. So often the stories that we create, our misperceptions and unclear communications can foster misunderstandings where none really exist. Recently I was reminded of this, and the lessons that I took away were priceless.

What I found was that when we are willing to open our hearts, it doesn’t just open us up to potential pain or heartache. For those that have the courage to look deeper, it gives us the opportunity for tremendous growth and freedom. This growth and freedom comes from being able to looking past our pains to the bigger picture for all involved.

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle – Plato

When we authentically show up in the world as a living example of our values and morals (without expectations or intentions of others to show up the same), we are in a place of personal power that no one can shake. This allows us to see how others truly are and interact based not in judgement of their pains, but with compassion for them.

How often is it in our day that we gracefully and kindly express what it is that we want in life? Are we honest in how we show up in the world and how we treat others? Are we being true to ourselves and what it is that we stand for? Not sharing common values, doesn’t make the other person bad, it makes them human.

When we are willing not to take things personally and step back far enough to see the perspectives of others, the lesson we take away is that we are all learning, growing and evolving in our own unique way.

I’ve been working with my mentor Judy Goodman to gain a greater understanding on this discussion. To read Judy’s recent newsletter that expands on this topic visit: http://www.judygoodman.com/Newsletter.htm and you’ll understand why many people describe Judy’s insights as beyond conventional wisdom.

Living a Heart Centered Life

d4eb4516-9959-4f87-801a-b5618167b1f3

The fabulous individuals that I am interviewing this month really bring to light, and serve as a reminder, how important living a heart centered life is. So how can I shift my life to be more heart centered? Is it possible to develop deeper relationships, not only with others but most importantly myself?

Let me share with you a couple of secrets that worked for me when I started on my path. Part of my everyday routine, begins and ends in gratitude. There is always so much to be grateful for, no matter what is happening. I find that by shifting my focus on what I’m thankful for allows me to see the world in a different way. It’s so easy to engage with others in a bit of complaining or gossip, but this contagious habit can spread like a cancer in your life if left unchecked. By shifting focus and choosing to look for all things positive (and believe me… there were some days I had to stand pretty far back to see a glimmer of positivity!) I have found that there is little that can happen in my day that throws me off my path.

The second secret I would like to share with you is a very simple, yet profound blessing that you can silently do for anyone. It’s called Heart to Heart at www.JudyGoodman.com I have personally seen the miraculous happen when doing this blessing. The caveat is this blessing is done with no expectation or intentions for the other person, you are only the conduit for the blessing to occur, thus allowing the Universe to work it’s magic. Now who doesn’t want a more magical life!

Both of these secrets are simple, yet very important in making significant change. Life is merely an illusion, it is an invention of our thoughts, beliefs, feelings and perceptions. So let’s choose to have an experience that feeds our soul and allows us to live

Remember to tune in this month as I explore how to show up and live life from the Heart!

Moving Into New Beginnings

NewBegin

Spring is in the air and every thing is moving into a new beginning!  So how can we move into a new beginning in our own lives?  It’s simple to do the normal spring cleaning in our home, car and office, but sometimes the most difficult changes could be doing a little spring cleaning in our personal lives.  Much of this can be done by how we choose to see the world and how we choose to interact with others.  This quote from Judy Goodman is a great reminder of the power that each of us possess in determining what type of experience we will have.

“Every day is a new beginning.  Plan ahead for for what you would like that beginning to look like.  Remember that every thing is about the choices we make!” – Judy Goodman

Waking up and choosing to have a good day, not taking things personally, being kind with your words (including towards yourself!) and taking the initiative to reach out to others in kindness is a great start!

Join me in planning ahead  by choosing not to complain for the next 30 days.  By watching our words, it will help shift our experience into a positive one, regardless what his happening around us. Let’s move our focus towards what we are grateful for in our lives.  Making this shift in perspective will change your life!

Choosing Hope

KaitlinKaitlin Roig-DeBellis is the first-grade teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary School who saved her entire class of fifteen six- and-seven-year-olds from the tragic events that took place on December 14, 2012, by piling them into a single-occupancy bathroom within her classroom, mere feet from the brutal and indiscriminate massacre taking place outside the door. Since then, despite the unimaginably painful experiences she endured, she has chosen to share her experience with others, in the hope that they too can find light in dark moments.

Kaitlin is the Founder & Executive Director of Classes 4 Classes, Inc., a 501(c)3 organization. Kaitlin founded Classes 4 Classes knowing that positive social change was needed, and that this needed to begin with the youngest members of our society, our K-8 students. Classes 4 Classes is a social networking tool, for every student in the United States to learn: compassion, caring, kindness, empathy, consideration, through active engagement. Classes 4 Classes has worked with over 1,000 students in 10 states. In 2015 they are expanding to all 50 states.

Choosing Hope is a lot of things. A written witness to a tragedy that will never be forgotten. A gripping firsthand testament to the power of good over the power of destruction. An inspirational memoir by a brave young woman whose story is one of courage, heroism, faith, and resilience. And a celebration of all the people who make the choice to pass along their hope and positivity to young ones—parents, mentors, and especially teachers. There is no moving on, but there is always moving forward. And how we move forward is a choice.

You can visit Choose Hope & Classes 4 Classes Here!

“Teachers rescue children every day by teaching them the skills they need to succeed in life.  But no teacher expects to have to rescue her students from a deadly attack.  Kaitlin Roig’s quick thinking and swift action saved her students’ lives. In her book, Choosing Hope, Kaitlin honors the memory of the children and educators whose lives were lost on that sad day.” — Mrs. Laura Bush, Former First Lady of the United States

Choosing Hope is a stirring memoir, capturing not only the brutality of the Sandy Hook tragedy but the incredible heroism, resilience and grace that emerged in its wake. Kaitlin Roig-DeBellis’s deep love for her students makes this a bold, inspiring and ultimately hopeful book.”  — Arianna Huffington, co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post and author of the New York Times bestseller Thrive

3 Tips to Get Over Valentine’s Day Blues

Happiness

Are you stuck in your PJs feeling like the month of February should be stricken from the calendar? With Valentine’s Day over, you now find yourself in either one of two categories; You feel elated that there was finally some much needed, romantic down time with your special someone, or are you feeling a bit blue because Valentine’s Day is just another reminder that you’re single and your “romantic dance card” looks more like the cast of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

If you find yourself in the later category, then these 3 simple tips will have you refocusing and finding love in your everyday life!

1) Let go of what love should look like and stand in appreciation of all the love that is currently in your life. This can be love from your family, friends, pets, strangers showing you “love” by opening doors or something as simple as a smile. You will not only become a happier person (who doesn’t want to be that!) but you will attract more loving relationships into your life. What a win-win situation and joy to be in!

2) Fix yourself up for YOU! Regardless where you are going during the day, headed out to get gas or pick up some groceries, tidy up your hair, makeup and clothing. The more you have pride in how you look the more confident you will become.  We all have different body types so don’t’ compare, love that uniqueness that is yours alone. The greatest love story of your life should be falling in love with yourself and the beautiful person that you are. Everything after that is just icing on the cake!

3) Give it away! If you are looking for love in your life and there isn’t any to be found, give it away.  Look to see what local charity you can be involved with, visit a nursing home spending time with some of the residents or help a neighbor with their groceries. When you give love away, it comes back to you!

Practicing these three steps will change how you view the world around you.  There is a happy life waiting for you, all you have to do is shift perspectives and show up.

Seeing Possibilities Through Blindness

12043154_10207987151656373_4668567603647150912_n

Endurance athlete Dan Berlin of Team See Possibilities doesn’t let the onset of blindness that developed later in his life slow him down. This go-getter is making history as he encourages other to “see possibilities” regardless of their situation.  Dan grew up in the chocolate town of Hershey, Pennsylvania, and now co-owns Rodelle, one of the world’s leading vanilla extract companies, in Colorado where he lives with his wife and two children.

Over the course of twenty years, Dan gradually lost his eyesight from cone-rod dystrophy. He struggled with the limitations of his new reality, but instead of simply feeling sorry for himself, he came up with a new way to approach the rest of his life. He decided, despite his blindness, to become a marathoner.

Dan has since run twelve marathons, including NYC and Boston, completed two Half Ironman triathlons, completed the Rim to Rim to Rim: running across the Grand Canyon and back nonstop. He is the first blind person ever to complete this intimidating challenge. His most recent accomplishment was making history by being the first blind athlete to complete the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in a single day.

Accompanied by three guides at Team See Possibilities, who are constantly looking for new iconic locations for Dan to become the first blind athlete to complete a major test of physical fitness.  He’s in great company with a team consisting highly notable individuals themselves; Charles Scott who left a 14 year career at Intel Corporation to develop the Family Adventure Guy, which has been featured in National Geographic and is an author who raises money for charities as he competes in endurance challenges,  Alison Qualter Berna is a proud mother of three and co-founder of Apple Seeds, a children’s play space based in New York City. Alison has worked in production at NBC after graduating from Princeton University and has also started and managed a global sports program called Sports for Development at UNICEF, and Brad Graff a Harvard Business School graduate and formal Naval Officer, who recently ended his 17 year career at Intel Corporation.

While it took some training, nothing could prepare the guides for the task ahead. Alison talks about how “she really needed to be more confident in herself in order to complete the run and guiding Dan allowed her to share something extraordinarily powerful with someone that needed her.”

Dan stumbled many times while crossing the Grand Canyon, but he never give us. “He lives a life on what’s possible and then makes it happen” Alison shares. It’s Dan’s goal to encourage both children and adults suffering from blindness to move beyond limitations and to think about new possibilities.

It wasn’t until Lynn met a woman who told her that she is “A Bridge Between Worlds” that everything fell in place. It was that simple phrase that connected for her the journey on which she’d been on, and the road on which she was to continues to travel. Lynn likens her calling to being on the precipice of an abyss, hearing whispers and seeing images of those desperately looking for someone to hear them. She stands on that bridge, arms outstretched to embrace and give voice to those who need to speak and deliver messages of love and comfort to those here on Earth in pain.

Showing up in a Big Way!

Facebook_Banner_White Background - Revised

The last few months has been one astonishing moment after another. I can’t begin to express my deepest gratitude for all the wonderful events, opportunities and people that have come into my life. One such moment is the start of my weekly radio show airing on Moments with Marianne at Dreamvisions 7 Radio Network and every second Sunday on WMEX 1510AM Boston!

It’s interesting that this opportunity showed up when it did. My inner journey over the last few months has me reflecting on how I could show up in a bigger way and how I could make a greater impact. Almost instantly, the path opened up before me.

Judy Goodman told me some time back “when you are on your path, life gets simpler and everything falls into place.” How true that has become over the last few years. The struggle is gone and a greater sense of peace is what rules my world now. This is not to say that everything is always easy for me, I still have the same challenges that everyone else does. Yet my inner peace is at an all time high, along with an strong conviction of who it is that I am and what I have to offer. When we stand in this knowing, these moments not only define who we are to a greater degree, but also gives us the opportunity to shine our light in the world.

Make Every Moment Count!

Marianne

Saying “Yes” and Moving Beyond Fear

successMP

Many times during my career,  I have come up against fear in one form or another. Should I move my business in a certain direction, accept a proposal that I knew in my heart wasn’t a good fit the future of my business or work with a client that didn’t value, respect or appreciate what I bring to the table? When I quiet myself and listen to that inner guidance, typically the answers come quickly.  When I find myself struggling for a solution, a list of pros and cons will do the trick with money out of the equation. Overall, I have come to realize that fear itself is the doorway to a greater plateau of my personal and professional development.  When I move through fear with courage and faith, I have gained the greatest insights of my life.

If I want a different result, I have to do things differntly. It’s that Einstein quote “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” that rings countless truths, yet many of us do this repetitious behavior expecting things to change.  So how could I show up in a bigger way, breaking the routines and patterns that have kept me feeling “safe” to expand my horizons?  One way of doing this is to say “Yes” more often, even when you feel like saying No!  This doesn’t mean to be a doormat, but it does mean moving beyond the boundaries that provide a comfortable and secure border around your life.

This year, saying Yes more often has opened doors that I couldn’t imagined were possible.  This has allowed me to meet life more boldly and be more present to the gifts that are coming my way.

I challenge you to say Yes more often and see what the Universe has in store for you!  I bet it’s worth the adventure!

Wishing you all the best!
Marianne
