Moving Through Loss

Most of us know the five stages of grief, but for the heart loss isn’t something that can be quantified and there is no set time to move from one stage to another.  All we can do is take one difficult day after another, allowing time and love to heal the wound.

Whether it be a family member, beloved pet, friend, the Queen of Soul or a decorated War Hero, there’s a measure of grief for who they were and the legacy they leave in our world.

The loss of their brilliant light is palpable, yet we are better for having spent time in their glow. It’s been said that the pain we feel when we lose someone is equally to the love we had for them.

But how do we move through these losses? The truth is, there’s no wrong way, but there is a way. We move through loss by paying tribute to those we have loved, even from afar. We share their pictures, notes, memories, and words of wisdom. We honor their values and character by emulating those best qualities, so their legacy can live on in others. As difficult as it might be, we re-engage with those around us, even if it’s a little at a time. Over time, the pain will drift away, but their impact in our lives will forged be in our hearts and actions.
